Beauty // Autumn Performance Makeup

Beauty // Autumn Performance Makeup
Hello dears! We girls love to be unique and creative with how we dress and appear to our audiences when we perform, from dresses, to shoes, right up to makeup! And we have so much fun developing new color combinations for our performance makeup for each season: purple & pink for summer, red and blue for winter, and this Autumn: orange and red! Today I am going to show you how to achieve this look for yourself.

Remembering WWII // The USO Show!

Remembering WWII // The USO Show!
Hello dearies! Before we (Jessica and I) get started, I want you all to do something for me. Pull up Spotify, or if you don't have that, pull up iTunes or Amazon. Search for "The Big Debut" by the Boyer Family Singers. Press play, purchase, or whatever it requires for you to be able to hear the music. Now. Now, you can start reading this post, and as you look at the few photos that we have of the Remembering WWII U.S.O show (courtesy of the amazing Charles Vernier), imagine yourself there, listening to the music, and enjoying the beautiful, fading memories of an amazing day. Alright, you all set? Let's get started.

Remembering WWII // Music, Veterans & Canteens

Remembering WWII // Music & Vets
Hello again! I am here to share part two of the Remembering WWII photo-overload with you all ;) This time the photos capture some of the veterans & performers at the event, which really made the whole thing so special. The veteran's stories were SO incredibly powerful, and left many of us breathless and in complete wonder of how those heroes pulled through. God's providence in their adventures in the war was so evident through the whole thing. Also, it was fabulous to see many other talented performers get up on the stage and sing the popular tunes from WWII. You can't imagine how refreshing it was for us girls to see other young folks just as eager to remember and share the songs of the past to the present generations! This was truly an event of living history, folks!

Remembering WWII // Fellowship

Remembering WWII // Fellowship
Hey y'all! Wow! What did I just say? Y'all? Really? Yep, really. That is what you get for staying three days down in Linden Tennessee–the pretty contagious way of speaking about the third person plural. Haha! Oh dear! Well, it was such a crazy whirlwind of hours of fellowship, meeting person after wonderful person, and singing–can't forget the singing part–that I am not sure we three will be able to do justice to this week's account of Remembering WWII. But many things must be said. Okay, no going back now... Let's begin with the time our family spent in fellowship with everyone who gathered for this momentous occasion.

Outfit // Happy in My Own Backyard

Outfit // Happy in My Own Backyard
Hello hello!
While in the midst of a blogging meeting (ooh, a little behind the scenes secret...) we three were trying to figure out what to do for today's post, and both Brigid and Charlotte suggested I post an outfit. Well, sure! Why not? Um... what kind of outfit? In the end I made up my mind to share a simple "everyday" kind of ensemble, and so this refashioned dress is what I came up with. Hope you like it! I also want to share some of my own personal musings for this week, so lets begin! (Just for the record, I am not allowed to tell you the names of my funny photo "props") :)

How We Sing // In The Beginning

How We Sing // In the Beginning How does one begin to tell a story that extends, not from just five years past, but from decades before the teller was even born? Where does one start in expressing gratitude to those who have come before, and the Maker who wrote the story before time began? I suppose one can only express such gratitude by telling the story for all to hear, and that is precisely what I shall do in the story of the beginning of our singing.

Happy Independence Day! (+blogging break & Q&A video!!)

Happy Independence Day!
Happy Independence Day!
Hey all! This is just to wish you a very happy rest of your week, an amazing Independence Day (to our USA readers!), and also to let you know that we will be taking a break from blogging for the next few days, as our singing schedule is very demanding (which is a very great understatement.) 'Tis the Season! You can keep up with us on our Facebook Page to see what's up with our vocal engagements.

Singing // Our Fundraising Concert!

On Friday May 31st, we girls put on our first Concert to raise funds for a CD! After several weeks of preparation, practice, practice, practice... Did I mention that we practiced? Oh yeah, I did... Friday finally rolled around and we drove down to the old Sligo Gym we had rented for the event, and set up the many decorations as the clock ticked down to 7:00. People began to arrive, and we girls hurried to the back room to change. We opened the show with our rendition of the National Anthem, then sang our favorite a cappella bluegrass piece: Angel Band.

Our 2014 BFS Photo Shoot

BFS Photo Shoot 2014
A few weeks ago, in loo of our website being published and other exciting singing events coming up, we thought it was about time we got some new, up-to-date photographs of us girls. So, I hung up an old white sheet on one of our basement window's trim, and draped another on the floor. We filled some of Jessica's collected coke bottles with ice tea (ha! no, that is not real coke you see. We're not pop drinkers ;), and posed as best and as gracefully we could while the self-timer on my camera ticked down from ten, and I scuttled back and forth from tripod to backdrop. The lighting was honest-to-goodness not the greatest, and I am SO thankful to low-aperture lenses and good editing softwares (ha!). I can't say enough how proud and thrilled I am with how well they turned out! Given the circumstances of our shoot's setting, I can hardly believe that they look so, well, profesh ;) It tickles me  to think that we've fooled so many into thinking that these were taken by a top-of-the-line photographer in a studio. Hehe, nope! DIY forever, right?

Princess Show // The Videos

Hello everyone! Aren't you excited it's Friday? And tomorrow the weekend begins! You all might remember the posts we've been putting up recently about the Princess show that our voice teacher put on a few weeks ago (you can view the previous posts here, and here). Well, we finally have the videos ready for you all to see! Above is Charlotte, or I should say Snow White, singing "Someday My Prince Will Come". Doesn't she do a fantastic job?

Princess Show // The Costumes & Getting into Character

Snow-White
We had SO much fun last night taking part in a Disney Princess show that our Vocal teacher put on, as we mentioned yesterday, so of course we just had to share with you all! Two things everyone asked us over the past week of preparation was 1. Where did we get our costumes? and 2. How did we get into character? So we thought you all would like to know the answer to those questions as well!

COS // In the Bleak Mid Winter

Jessica_1
A blessed Lord's Day to you all!

When words cannot come into one's head, there is a bit of a problem while writing up blog posts. I could tell you that so many things have happened over this past week that Charlotte and I almost neglected this Classy On Sunday. I could tell you that I am quite fearful for this upcoming month of March – never have I seen a March come in like a lion more than this one will – we are going to be frightfully busy with singing events! I feel like I am stuck in that lurch of Ready, Set, Go! so that nothing I do really seems to be satisfying, or worth my time. For once, I think I am actually nervous about how busy we are going to be! But then something catches my attention...

Outfit // Vintage Music Addict

Vintage-Music-1
One of the most interesting things about our girls' singing career is how addicted we are to vintage sheet music. Anytime that we walk into a vintage shop and spot a bin or box of music scores, we always beeline to it and begin digging through the collection of musty, delicate paper; printed so uniquely on the outside, holding myriads of possibilities for our singing career within.

Dan's Got a Gal in Kalamazoo // And other Singing Updates

Hello all!
Last Sunday we had the immense pleasure of performing for our Pastor's son (a recently returned home Afghanistan veteran) and his soon-to-be bride, Lydia, at our Church's fellowship meal! Our pastor and his wife kept on hinting at us girls to learn "I've Got a Gal in Kalamazoo" while Danny was deployed, as Lydia, with whom Danny was in a relationship with at that time, just so happened to be from that delightfully-titled part of Michigan.
