Ah the sixties. It's really a love-hate decade for most. Some adore it in every way; others simply despise it, being blinded by a few of the horrendous revolutions and political events that took place.... and then there are those like me, who only care to take bits and pieces of the decade for fashion inspiration. This was the era for mod shifts, kitten-heels, mini-skirts, cable-knit sweaters, and beehives. I think the best way to wrap up this decade of eccentric fashions in a few keywords would be this: structured, casual, and colorful. How We Wear Vintage for the Holidays // 1950s

Hello dears, Charlotte here! Today we get to cover my most absolute favorite era, from beginning to end: the 1950s. Why do I love this era so much? Well, at the start of it you have adorable designs that still harken back to the 40s; the middle has the absolute splendor of huge skirts and eccentric details; and then at the later end, the conservative, ever-classic fashions of the 60s start trickling in (think Dick Van Dyke style)... Oh how I do adore this era! Anyhow, we get to be inspired today by these gorgeous fashions for our holiday outfits, so let's dig in, shall we?

Outfit // Winter Uniform

Well, friends, the Holiday season is upon us! Here at the BFS studio we are in full-swing with Christmas preparations, both for the blog & singing. We still have 5 more venues to sing at before we are done for the year (al.most.there.), and today we have 2 photo-shoots, one already done, and the other a project of 3 combined photo-shoots. Whew. Sorry for the low-down on our schedule ;) I guess it just feels good to let out a little steam at somebody other than your two best friends (i.e – sisters)... who are also experiencing it. :D Now, to talk about polaroid cameras and uniforms!

Classy on Sunday // Grey on Gray

Do any of you ever get confused with how to spell grey? Evidently "gray" spelled with an "a" is the American adaptation, while "grey" is the... normal spelling? I don't know why, but grey has always seemed more refined and polished than gray (oh, and don't try reading this paragraph out loud... for obvious reasons ;). So now that we have the spelling of grey as grey spelled with an "e" being much more elegant than gray (geez, but I'm starting to sound like Anne of Green Gables), we can now get down to business with my very grey outfit (ok, I'll stop now :D)...

You know the outfit where you just want to have fun with it? Though it might seem a bit too mix-matched, but you plumb don't care at all. It's an outfit you feel good in, and can't help but kick up some leaves and cheekily smile and laugh in. Well, that' my November Rainbow Outfit.

What I Made // Smooth Sailing Jeans

Hello dears! Today I am excited to share with you my first ever me-made jeans! When Lauren of Wearing History was having her kickstarter for her ready-made clothing line, I knew that I wanted to participate and support her in some way. I had also been eyeing her Smooth Sailing 1930's Sports Togs pattern since I have been on the look out for a simple pattern for vintage jeans. When I found a digital e-Pattern of choice from her shop was a prize for supporting her on Kickstarter, everything was perfect: I could both help fund Lauren, and get the pattern I had been coveting, all in one fell swoop! It was a total win-win!

Hello lovelies! Today we are all in a whirl preparing for a big gig we girls have tonight, and our even bigger trip this next week to National Bible Bee. If you haven't already heard, our family is volunteering for the third time in a row at NBB, and this time it's in Orlando, Florida. Which, by the way, is 18+ hours away from us and BB headquarters. So all of us volunteers are taking a 2-day trip on a charter bus down... which our whole family is rather excited for/dreading... I seriously think we live one of the most excited/peaceful/wonderful lives a family of mostly girls could. As the old saying goes, "Adventure is Out There!" :D

Hello friends! I'v been seeing the "what's in my bag" post cycle around the blogosphere for a couple years now, and have finally gotten around to doing it myself! Yay! I think one of the best ways to find out a lady's style is to look at their purse. Is is a classy leather tote? A saggy, trendy hobo? A designer handbag? October in the Golden Hour

Hello lovelies! Last Sunday I was itching to take advantage of the gorgeous colors of Autumn and the free time we girls had, so galavant down the road we did for a photo shoot. The time of day was when the clouds and sun are tuning themselves like an orchestra before a great performance, that performance being a glorious sunset. Sometimes I can't believe the photos that I actually take. I know that's something photographers aren't supposed to reveal, but seriously, when I look back at these photos that I snapped of my gorgeous models that I recruited sisters, I can hardly believe that I took them :)

Hello dears! We girls love to be unique and creative with how we dress and appear to our audiences when we perform, from dresses, to shoes, right up to makeup! And we have so much fun developing new color combinations for our performance makeup for each season: purple & pink for summer, red and blue for winter, and this Autumn: orange and red! Today I am going to show you how to achieve this look for yourself.

Remembering WWII // Music, Veterans & Canteens

Hello again! I am here to share part two of the Remembering WWII photo-overload with you all ;) This time the photos capture some of the veterans & performers at the event, which really made the whole thing so special. The veteran's stories were SO incredibly powerful, and left many of us breathless and in complete wonder of how those heroes pulled through. God's providence in their adventures in the war was so evident through the whole thing. Also, it was fabulous to see many other talented performers get up on the stage and sing the popular tunes from WWII. You can't imagine how refreshing it was for us girls to see other young folks just as eager to remember and share the songs of the past to the present generations! This was truly an event of living history, folks!
