Hello lovelies! Today we are all in a whirl preparing for a big gig we girls have tonight, and our even bigger trip this next week to National Bible Bee. If you haven't already heard, our family is volunteering for the third time in a row at NBB, and this time it's in Orlando, Florida. Which, by the way, is 18+ hours away from us and BB headquarters. So all of us volunteers are taking a 2-day trip on a charter bus down... which our whole family is rather excited for/dreading... I seriously think we live one of the most excited/peaceful/wonderful lives a family of mostly girls could. As the old saying goes, "Adventure is Out There!" :D

When ever-so-often I am bored enough to browse my feed on Pinterest (wow, did I really just say that?!), I am consistently pounded with "wanderlust" quotes and photos, etc. etc. Is it just me, or has this trend been on a rampage lately? I mostly roll my eyes and look on when I come across this type of media, but lately I have been straying away from "Bloom[ing] where You're Planted", and been seeking the novel cultures and sights of other states, countries, occupations, etc. Being the type of girl who gets discontent easily, I guess I should have seen it coming. Often times it's hard to understand why God placed us where He has, but honestly, you're life is more adventurous than it seems. Believe it or not, I get tired fast of our girl's singing career. I want to travel to Arizona and photograph the Grand Canyon or fly to London and experience the refined British culture, or spend my days as a full-time photographer, or just do something other than what I am doing. But then, I take a step back and realize that my life is more adventurous than I thought it was. I mean, performing at an old Opera House right before taking a charter bus down to Orlando, FL for a volunteer job? Or even photographing outfits, hair tutorials, and designing photoshop actions and websites... How is that not exciting, adventurous, or whatever you want to call it? God has me and my family where we are for a reason, and that's the same for you too. However cheesy it may sound, bloom where you're planted. I am struggling right along with you, so we're in this journey together :D
Well, I have two more posts to write up and schedule for next week while we are away, so I'd better get cracking!
What has been adventurous in your life lately?
xoxo,
-Charlotte

Well, that's encouraging! Thanks for that! I certainly do want to bloom where I'm planted. I have a habit of growing discontented too ;) But I try to keep it down! I'll pray for contentment for you!
ReplyDeleteLove,
Ruth
"Bloom where you're planted." I've never heard that before but I'm so glad you posted this, it's so encouraging and just what I needed to hear!
ReplyDeleteYou girls always inspire me to dress vintage!
ReplyDeleteAny tips on where to buy decently priced vintage clothes?

Hi Charlotte! Lovely color scheme and I was so blessed by your inspiring words at the end of the post. Such a good, needed reminder. With nationals right around the corner, it can be hard to finish strong and I was blessed by your words.
ReplyDeleteMy dad and I were able to go down to South America this spring and I often miss our dear friends down there, but praying for joyful contentment wherever I am. :) A friend mentioned this quote this summer and I found it super convicting/inspiring - "Willing to go, content to stay." Mmm, yes.
Looking forward to seeing you all at nationals, Lord willing! I was able to say hello to Jessica last year and sing with you all in the choir, but hopefully this year I'll be able to say hello to you, too, sometime amidst the wonderfully full days. :) All right - have a blessed day!
Oh, and one more quote that came to mind: "Adventuring. Sometimes I think it isn't so much where you go, but whom you go with that makes it an adventure." >> mikailah autumn. Yay for dear friends and family to make memories with. :) Blessings!
ReplyDeleteThanks for the "bloom where you're planted" encouragement! I'm struggling with this as well; I'm studying at college right now, but wishing I was doing anything and everything else! (Especially when I've got hours and hours of studying to do on a weekend). But just being at college, studying exciting material (Math IS awesome!) is nothing to be discontented about!
ReplyDeleteThanks so much for the encouraging words, Charlotte! Recently, I've really been struggling with becoming discontented especially with my school work and all. I'm in college and I should really be thankful for this opportunity and while it may seem boring and unexciting at times it is definitely the opposite! I am so grateful for the opportunity to be where I am right now and I know God has put me here for a reason.
ReplyDeleteHey! I'll be at Bible Bee (as a contestant)! :D I'd love to meet you guys!
ReplyDeleteSincerely,
a reader who loves your blog (despite her lack of comments - she's not good at commenting anywhere :P)
Yeah! What a great post! (And a pretty outfit, as always). You're right, life always looks more exciting on the other side... Do you think that you would like to travel at some point in your life, say, as a missions trip? I know that a lot of post-high-schoolers do that and was curious if you had ever considered it.
ReplyDeleteThat said, I think that it's so very important to being able to be grateful for what you have and the life that you are living.
Have fun in Orlando...and come visit me!! :)
ReplyDeleteBloom where you're planted is such good advice!
ReplyDeleteBlessings~
I also second the thanks for your honesty and encouragement, Charlotte. I'm currently working part-time and attending college in the same town I've lived in since high school, and sometimes all I can think about is how much I wish I was somewhere else. Then I remember that if I look at my life as a whole instead of trying to pick apart the day-to-day, it's really not such a bad track record after all, and I also remember that the story isn't written yet :)

P.S. I love your outfit...mixed prints are the best when they're done right :)
You girls look so great! The trip sounds very exciting, good luck!

You guys look so lovely! I did the NBB two years in a row, it was tough, a real commitment. I didn't do all that well. We counted something like 8 bible verses a day for the seniors. It was changed a couple of years ago so that the main part of the competition was the test and not the verses but I remember my first year doing it and being completely stuck. :P But then there were so many kids who participated who had them all memorized, it was really amazing. Have fun with the NBB, I sure did! :)
ReplyDeleteGorgeous outfit, good luck with your gig!
ReplyDeleteI'm having a big giveaway on my blog!

Such a cute outfit Charlotte! The skirt is especially charming; I'm loving the slight mix of prints you played with. It's funny, I was thinking how nice that shirt looks on you and how dry and awful it would look on me, even though I really like it. I guess what they say about what 'season' you are and what color clothing you choose really does make a difference.
ReplyDeleteI am so encouraged by your last meaningful remarks; especially once you get a little older, people especially begin to want to know "What's new?" or "Are you planning on going to college?" or "Want me to find you a 'boyfriend'?". Which is not only awkward in finding a descent reply to, but also makes one wonder if you are really in the place you are 'supposed' to be.
Lately too, I have come to realize more how much the world in general actually works together. (Someone plants the tree so that one can cut it down to sell to another to craft into a furnishing in return sells to the next person which later in it's life is a family heirloom.) I believe that when we look at the world in 'the big picture' the way our Heavenly Father does, we won't be as discontent with where we happened to be in our journey. People may not want to hear that I don't plan on going to collage, but are they as eager to pass the news on that I am really enjoying my volunteer work and how many stories we hear of how much we bless others lives?
I guess I put a bit of a different light on your exact topic, but the fact is we have so much to be thankful for even if it does not seem exiting to us at that moment in time....or to other people who cross our path.
Fondly and with love,
Cassie
p.s. The Bible Bee! How can it already be coming around again!? Be safe dear friends! :)
oh! i know exactly what you mean, Charlotte. exactly. so often i'm looking ahead and beyond to more adventures and finding myself slightly discontented with the here and now. when in reality, the best times in my life are now. traveling all over the surrounding states, only a tiny bit of high school left so my days are very easy and free, getting ready for upcoming things all into the next year... my life is easy and happy (there has never been any terrible horrible deaths or tragedies around me, i'm not abused or going hungry) and yet i'm still restless.
ReplyDeletei love this 'bloom where your planted'. this is where God has planted me right now and i'm loving it.
lovely outfit by the way. i just love how you gals take a simple outfit post and make it so much more.

Yay! We can pin! :-)
ReplyDeleteI absolutely love your blouse! Thank you for the quote "bloom where you're planted"! It is a really great reminder that God places us where we are in life for a reason even though we might not see why!
