How does one begin to tell a story that extends, not from just five years past, but from decades before the teller was even born? Where does one start in expressing gratitude to those who have come before, and the Maker who wrote the story before time began? I suppose one can only express such gratitude by telling the story for all to hear, and that is precisely what I shall do in the story of the beginning of our singing.

It all started long ago, not just when a friend of Mom's happened to address a letter to our then two person family as "The Boyer Family Singers", but when our Grandma was a young girl. Grandma grew up in the 40's and 50's along with eight other siblings. She and two of her older sisters sang at Church camp meetings and revivals in their teens, praising God with the music that He had laid upon their hearts to sing, forming bonds and memories they would never forget. As time moved on, along with the arrival of difficult times and the births of my Dad and his siblings, it seemed to Grandma as if there were no songs left in her to sing; the enemy was stealing the very gift God had given Grandma and her sisters to please Him and to set others free!

Later on in life Grandma once again was able to sing with one of her sisters in Church, but she never stopped praying
the prayer that God had laid upon her heart during those difficult times: "
God let me see the gift you gave to me be fulfilled in one or many of my grandchildren." And it was with tears as I read this precious story through the words of her email that both Grandma and I realized God had truly answered her prayer. My sisters and I had never heard this story of Grandma's joy, sorrow, and prayer before, but when we did we all were humbled immensely. To think that not only had our Grandma been praying for us before we were even born, but that God had used us, absolutely clueless nobodies, to answer her prayer, and continue the legacy of the gift of song. "God moves in a mysterious way, His wonders to perform."
I only hope and pray that as we go forward we will remember and always be humbled by the amazing task that the Lord has given us to fulfill. For a gift from God is more than a gift. It is a responsibility. A responsibility of sharing, proclaiming and praising His name throughout the rest of the days He allows us to use this gift. So Grandma, I want to thank you from the bottom of our hearts for sharing, caring, loving and praying even before you knew we would come into the world. And thank you Lord for answering Grandma's prayer through the voices of three selfish, proud, sinful girls. To You alone be the Glory forever and ever!
What gifts do you have that you could share with others?
Have you ever prayed for someone you had yet to meet, or even know their name?
Can you guess what these photos are from?
Blessings in the One who saved us,

This is so amazing! My sister and I also sing, and are actually working on our second album of Christian originals this summer. We feel that in everything we do, we should do it in humility with the goal of serving Christ through our music. Lovely post...I loved reading it!
ReplyDeleteI know! I know! I don't know if I'd know though, if your family hadn't met with my parents this weekend. I probably would have had a good guess though. :D So excited for you girls! I miss you too! <3

Oh, I'm so happy for you! When do you think it will come out? I will definitely buy one. :)
DeleteOooo, how exciting that you are doing a recording project! Looking forward to hearing more :)
ReplyDeleteI failed to comment on this when it was actually posted, and now I am posting belatedly.
ReplyDeleteThe truth is, that I was deeply moved by reading this--and wasn't really able to respond yet. But thank you so much for sharing this. I do think it is amazing--the story about your dear grandmother and her prayer, and the fact that God brought all of you to where you are today.
God bless all of you!
I'm very late to this, too, but: what a wonderful story!
ReplyDeleteAnd I wanted to share, because it felt right to share, that there's a couple I once observed from a train station that I keep in my prayers occasionally to this day, because somehow, as I saw them, I knew I should. And your story gives me once again the hope that yes, it is meaningful and makes sense and has a purpose. (English is falling a little short on me here; I could say what I mean with fewer words in Czech.)
I've also taken up the habit - if you can call it habit if it's just as occasional - that I've read about on other blogs, of praying for the person whom I may one day marry. Because if I can pray for a couple of strangers, it makes sense to pray for a person who one day may not be a stranger...
