Patterns from the Files // Circle and Ruffle Skirt Patterns, Past and Present

Banner
Hello dearies! Today I have some more patterns to share with you all. Specifically, the circle and ruffle skirt patterns that helped get us started in the world of sewing our own clothing.

Collage-1
At the left you have the first circle skirt pattern we ever bought. My Mom purchased it after I finished a sewing camp where I made myself a circle skirt. The girls (as in my sisters) liked it so much that Mom went searching for a pattern (something we were very naive about at the time) and came up with this poodle skirt costume pattern. We used it for quite a few circle skirts until the pattern at the right came along. Simplicity 4236 is our new favorite for making half circle skirts, though it also includes an A-line and full circle skirt pattern.

Butterick B4722 was our second skirt pattern that we purchased I believe. We girls made ourselves some similar skirts to view E in a sewing project for our Church's Keepers club. But since we lost the pattern that we used in our move to Ohio, Mom found a new pattern to replace it. Now that we girls are all grown out of the size range for this pattern we've moved on to Simplicity 2412 for our ruffle skirts.

As you can see by the skirts above, we love Ruffle skirts! And we absolutely ADORE circle skirts. If you're not convinced, here's some links to some outfit posts we have done featuring the various skirts we have made from these patterns, both past and present:

Quite a long list, huh? Didn't I tell you we love these types of skirts? And, since you can find VERY similar patterns at the fabric store quite easily, I think I can dispense with the duty of giving you all links to similar patterns. ;)

Do you have a favorite style of skirt?
Do you have a favorite type of skirt to make?
Elastic or Non-elastic waist?
Circle or Ruffle Skirt?

Blessings,

  1. I love pleated skirts; I have made two knife pleated ones without a pattern, just tripled my waist measurement for the width of the pattern. The waistbands aren't right, and it is better to pleat as you go to make sure the pleats line up right, but I still love my skirts. I want to do a circle skirted dress, and I love ruffles, I don't know about tiers though, maybe in a fine silk.

  2. My favorite skirts are circle skirts!! And I do prefer a non-elastic waist, nicely fitted. I love the way skirts look with a pretty belt!

  3. I loved seeing some of your creations from these patterns!
Isn't it wonderful how many different looks you can get from such a simple pattern?!

How can I decide which style I prefer more?! You ask a hard question there! :)
As you know I have been loving Fresh Modesty's skirt pattern- besides this one I have an A-line and a traditional tiered skirt pattern that I have used for many years.
Again for a waistband it defiantly depends on the project at hand.
I would have to say that I like ruffled/tiered skirts slightly more than circle skirts.

    love
