Hello darlings!
As I was browsing through our S+R files this morning, trying to figure out what on earth I am going to share with you this week, I came across these practical, yet darling spreads of clothing pieces; perfect for the back-to-school season! I hope you enjoy!
Just look at those fabulous blouses! The colors are wonderful (very unlike what you might find today, I might add), and those plaids! I've found myself to be quite a sucker to plaids when the colder seasons come around... and I'm trying to figure out if that's a good thing, or if I have enough of this print in my closet already. But quite honestly, plaid is just one of those prints that are timeless... and maybe you could never have enough of?
I really adore these pretty suits and separates! The blue shirt to the right is rather tempting, and maybe a piece that I could develop a tutorial for... ;)
The jumpers in this spread are particularly nice as well, and I could actually imagine myself wearing one of them. I'm not that big on jumpers myself- but yes, I think those would suit me quite nicely. The pretty button detailing on the collar of the grey one is supreme!
One thing that has always stuck out to me about the mid-century fashions is how well everything fit the body of the wearer. The bodice was never slumpy or too tight; the pencil skirts were rarely stressing across the upper leg (unlike today's), the length of the skirt was never too short or too long. The garment looked simply beautiful on the wearer! That is one of my goals in sewing: impeccable fit. Probably a goal that will come to pass after I stop growing (like a weed!); but still I long after a frock that fits me like a glove! (don't get me wrong on this one- I don't mean immodestly)

Love these photos...You aren't alone in your plaid love affair, hahaha! I love it, too. I think my favorite things are the grey jumper, blue shirt/skirt outfit and the red dress, too cute!I also love the high waisted pants!

ReplyDeleteThat point - superb, flattering, becoming fit - is a large part of what appeals to me about 1950s fashions as well. They seemed so tremendously well suited to the shape of a woman's curves - and perhaps more so the curvy she was. Yet in most cases, they remained very proper, even demure at times, and though curve hugging, rarely veered into overtly proactive. There was both innocence and sophistication to the fashions of the 50s, and I love them dearly for it.
