Outfit // Vintage Threads

Hello friends! How's the weather been near you, lately? We've been in the low 80's and upper 30's this past week... yes, Mr. sun can't quite decide what to do with himself yet, I suppose ;) Anyway, I'm here to share with you all a sweet outfit featuring a find from a fellow vintage enthusiast, as well as a fun something I snagged via thredUP! So, let's dig in, shall we? :)



If you remember Brigid's Candy Striper outfit, then you might also recall her saying that we got a bundle of vintage inspired dresses from Solanah's instagram shop: NW Vintage. Well, the dress I am featuring today came from that bundle! I had to alter it a little to make it fit me better; but I was so happy to, as Solanah's purpose for selling some of her old vintage & reproduction garments is to give it to a new home that will have more interest in and care for it better.

I wore this dress for the first time in this outfit, and must say I can't wait to wear it more this Summer! It is so light and breathable, and the clean 1930's-40's silhouette makes it a simple, easy wear on any hot day.

Now for my next repurposed item that I talked about in my introduction, which I snagged from the amazing thredUp! These sweet gold textured flats are originally from the LOFT, and were retailed for around $44.00; but they were marked down to $13.99 on thredUp. Subtract a $10 credit I shared with Jess, and I paid even less! And, these sweet flats came in the original packaging from the store. Nice huh?

I think I can safely say I'm obsessed with thredUp :) The awesome prices, huge selection, and convenience of shopping in your own home make this company a home-run! A small problem that we girls have found with thrifting online is the sizing. How do you know if a skirt is too short, or if that blouse is going to fit you? Here are a couple of tips we've come up with to help us (and you) in our web-thrifting adventures:

• Look up the size chart from the original website where the item came from. ThredUp offers the size of the garment, but not the exact measurements. Often times the basic sizes (0-14+) can vary from brand to brand, so it would be a good idea to actually go to the website of the original company who sold the product and find out what their sizing is.
• You can measure the length of a skirt based on the waistband. Typically thredUp lays skirts flat to photograph them, and this can be handy for us shoppers :) Let's say you have a skirt with a 26" waist-band. If you were to lay that skirt flat, measuring from end to end, it would be 13". So, with that basic number in mind, you can judge if a skirt would be too short or too long by judging the length based off the waist size of the skirt. A decent length on a 26" waist skirt would be about double or more the waistband width laying flat.

On a more personal note: seasons are changing around here at the Boyer house. Not just in weather, but also in household/business matters. School is wrapping up for Brigid and I, singing jobs are building up, and our garden is beginning to beckon. Work outside has been commenced diligently by Jess, Mom & Dad. I hope to be more involved in our garden and yard work this year, as I always find it to be so fulfilling and refreshing: for what could be better than clean oxygen and fertile dirt?

Also, a big project I am excited to begin is the refinishing of our old kitchen table for use as a surface for studio (read: computer work/school) purposes. This is the first big project I've ever taken on, and I am excited to be doing it (mostly) independently! Now of course Dad will be instructing me on the ways of sanding and painting such a piece, but (hopefully) a large portion of the project will be done by me! I hope to share the before and after photos on the blog once it's finished, but we'll see what happens :)

So here's to new seasons and big projects!
