Sister Flair // Performance Dress Edition

So, for all of you out there who have been waiting for a post on our performance dresses, the moment you all have been waiting for is here at last! Here is the post with all the details as to the how, why, when and where we wear these dresses. Ready to go behind the scenes of the Boyer Family Singers' Trio? Forward Ho!




SO, these dresses were our first official performance dresses. We call them the Sunshine dresses. The fabric is a cheerful quilting cotton purchased at Fabric Shack, and they are sewn up from Butterick 5708. The first time we wore these dresses for a performance was a few years ago at our Homeschool group's "Show and Share" (a sort of talent show, though not a competition), singing one of our favorites, "Consider Yourself" from "Oliver". We have worn these dresses for the past few years, and they are now classified as our Summer performance dresses. The majority of the time, we wear them to perform with "The Back In Time Express", an oldies guitar band that has informally adopted us. They are the band we sing songs with such as Angel Band, Don't Fence Me In, and Keep On The Sunny Side.


These lovely rust colored dresses were our second performance dresses that Mom made us. With this round of garments we decided that Charlotte should have a different print for her dress, which you might have seen in a previous post last fall. They too are made of fabric from Fabric Shack, and the pattern that we employed was Sense and Sensibility Patterns' 1940's Swing dress. We love this pattern so much, that I have used it two times, Charlotte twice, and Mom is working on three, more formal, dresses for us! That's a total of us having used it six times! (or 10 times, if you count it once for each dress). I believe Mom made these for us just last Fall, but we have gotten plenty of use out of them, wearing them to such wonderful venues as The National Bible Bee 2012, and our town's Christmas Holidazzle.
Oh, and before I move on, the shoes that we wear for all our indoor performances are black pumps. Jessica and I got ours from Target (a few years ago, so, no they aren't in stock anymore ;P), and Charlotte outgrew hers, so she had to get a new pair from Payless. Oh the woes of being a trio member who is still growing. *hehe*


This dress is the most recent addition to our trio's wardrobe, Mom having made them just this past spring for us to wear for early summer singing events; the most notable having been singing The National Anthem for The Dayton Dragons. We wanted more of a 30's, depression era feel to these dresses so we went with more of a feedsack type fabric (again from Fabric Shack), and the fabric for the Jabot is a white Kona Cotton from Fabric.com. For the pattern we used Vintage Vogue 8767. Once again, Charlotte's dress has a different print than Jessica and I's, which I wasn't too keen on at first, but it has sort of grown on me.



I must say we had a LOT of fun taking these photos, goofing off and all! I hope you enjoyed getting to know more about our performance dresses, and, hopefully, we might be able to show you the new addition to our wardrobe sometime in the coming months.
