Sears & Roebucks Catalog Clippings (#4) // Spring Event Inspired

With graduations, formals, weddings, and all the rest of 'em coming our way very soon at this time of year- we ladies will probably be searching for that perfect gown to wear to those special events.

At a lack of old-timey inspiration for that quintessential frock? Never fear! Today I have rallied up some fabulous examples from our ever reliable 1950's Sears & Roebucks Catalogs to assist you in deciding what silhouette, print, etc. you might want that costume to be!

What about a classy floral print for that gown?
Or perchance  bold, sleek lines and full skirts might be your mode...
Classic silhouettes with fine detailing and gauzy materials would be simply dashing- don't you agree?
Fun, mod prints married with sophisticated forms could always be fun to try!

What are you plans for that "Perfect" formal gown?

  1. I have some fabric from a dear late friend which I want to use. I have about 3 yards of it, and it is a very slippery, gauze-y fabric. I really want it to be able to be a 'twirly' dress, sort of like the ones you posted here, just not quite so full, and start off with panels the whole way from the neckline to the hem. Do you have any ideas/patterns? Thanks for your help! And I hope you find your dress!

    1. The pattern I would recommend would probably be Butterick 5603, as it only takes a little over 3 yards:

It turns out (shh, don't tell anyone) I'm using this pattern for a special party dress for myself!

      Hope this helps!

  2. I'm mostly enjoying the classy cuts! All the different necklines, waistlines...
I have no special event before me, except for the celebration of... let me count... 220? years of my congregation. And since I love the clothes from that era, I'm going that route... somewhat. But I love the 50s silhouette for other occasions!
