Hello dearies! Have the breezes of November reached your neck of the woods yet? Our woods have been almost completely emptied of their bounteous leaves, and the gray-brown of the winter months is starting to show its face. Thankfully the bitter cold has not yet arrived, though I hear tell that there is to be snow this weekend. Botheration! November always puzzles me, because at the beginning, there are little hints and teases of snow, and then we go for almost two months(!) without a single snowflake. Finally, if we're lucky, we'll get snow around Christmastime, though thankfully its only a powdered sugar coating usually, and not a carton of ice-cream. ;) Anyways, because the weather was nice yesterday, I was able to wear this between-seasons outfit!

Yesterday was full of trials and blessings. Mom and I went out to pick up a vintage sewing machine in the afternoon. I was SO excited, because it was a portable model (the one I have currently is a cabinet model), and I had been searching for such a machine for ages! But then, at the end of my time trying it out, it jams and the bobbin stops working. I thought it was something that I had accidentally done, but when we got it home and Dad and I looked inside, we discovered that one of the only plastic gears had shattered to pieces! BOTHERATION! And this is a vintage machine! How was I ever going to find the part? On top of that, I was dealing with some stress from an upcoming event that I am helping organize, so I was quite distraught over this small calamity. My stress nearly ruined our girls' singing practice, and caused many a raised voice in our house. Not good.

That night, when I looked back over the day, nearly overcome with my worries, I realized how much the Lord had blessed me that day:
I had finally found a machine that I had been searching for, even though the gear was broken. But then I found the proper gear online, so I'll hopefully be able to fix it!
I had a fun photoshoot with Charlotte for this outfit post.
God gave me strength and patience to hold my tongue when I really wanted to say some un-necessary things throughout the day.
Even when we have a day that seems like it was all trials, when we truly examine the past hours of toil, we will see the blessings that the Lord put there that we didn't even stop to notice. Thank the Lord for His bountiful mercy and providence! He never leaves us nor forsakes us!

Sweater: Hand-me-up from Charlotte, J. Crew // Dress: eShakti // Pearl Necklace: Gift from Jessica

I actually had a hard time putting together this outfit! I wanted to wear a sweater over my eShakti dress, but everything made my waist look too thick (yes, I have an issue with those sort of optical illusions). Finally this sweater's proportions worked, but the v-neck was too low, even though the neckline of my dress barely came up high enough for my standards. To distract from that, I added my pearl necklace, and then accessorized my hair with a flexi from Lilla Rose. Overall I ended up liking this outfit, and I think I might wear it again when it's not too chilly outside.

How have you been blessed or tried lately?
Have you ever bought something old that than broke on you?
Have you ever fixed a vintage sewing machine?
Blessings,
Brigid

What a lovely outfit. :) It makes me think of old fashioned libraries and hot tea.
ReplyDeleteI was wondering, do you think that you girls could do a post on insecurities and how you deal with them? I think that most of your readers are at that age (including me) where we start to find faults with ourselves and our looks. The teenage years are pretty rough on that. It would be a great encouragement to hear from you guys on that topic from a Christian perspective. :)
What a great idea! I'd love to hear your thoughts on that issue as well.
DeleteI 3rd a vote for this topic!
DeleteThis outfit is so nice and unique Brigid! I've actually been contemplating putting black and tan together the last few outfits I've paired up. This confirms it for me- love it!
ReplyDeleteWhat a let-down and a bother! Your longed for sewing machine! I recall the troubles I had when I finally found the machine I had coveted, my treadle, only to have the bobbin (it's always that pesky little guy isn't it?!) become very loose each time I adjusted it. I have found a way to keep the dreaded tension issue at bay since, but, what a bother when all you want to do is sit down and play with your new toy! Oh my.... At least you were able to find the part! What a relief!!
I love this photo shoot! Love your photography Charlotte! You are so very talented!

It's always the little things that get me too! But yay for finding parts online! I'm trying to fix up a vintage serger right now so I feel you.
ReplyDeleteThe outfit is also darling!
I really love how honest/real your girls are- your posts are always uplifting and encouraging.
ReplyDeleteThank you for running such a great blog!
Charleigh
You look so pretty, Brigid!
ReplyDeleteI love your shoes, too.
As to the questions, I've been tried some...but blessed, so, so much more. These days I can hardly believe it's really my life sometimes :D

Beautiful outfit, Brigid! =) I agree with Charleigh, I'm so blessed by your girl's honesty and realness. Thank you!
ReplyDeleteI love this outfit. I could wear this on our cooler days but after a chill-ish weekend we are back to "almost hot." Lately things have been a mixture of blessings and trials. But the blessings are much bigger than the trials. :)
