Classy on Sunday // Sisters in Polkadots

Happy weekend!
Today both me and Brigid have a COS to share with you today! A kind of Sister Flair and Classy on Sunday combined.

Handmade Dress // Target Shoes

A while back (maybe a year?) Brigid and I purchased some rayon shirting for a killer deal ($2.50 a yard!!), enough for both of us to make 40's swing dresses out of. Brigid fulfilled that goal, while I however saved my material, as I wanted to use this special (to me) treasure for the perfect project.

Just this past year, I decided to draft an adorable design from Brigid's Haslam pattern drafting book (a reprint from the late 1940's, early 50's.) With some help from the mastermind seamstress (aka Brigi), I procured a rather successful pattern made to my exact measurements to construct the dress that I am wearing in this post! I made the actual dress back in July, and have worn it a few times since then. It was my first time working with rayon, so needless to say it was rather tricky and "slippy." I love the finished product, and though the textile I used for my frock is not the most breathable in the world, the carefree design kind of substitutes that factor. I can only imagine this dress design in a light toile or linen... *sigh*

Handmade Dress + Belt // Payless Shoes // Gifted Hair Flower // Thrifted Purse

Since me and Brigid now have dresses made up of the same fabric, I'd been trying to convince her to wear her swing dress one of the Sundays that I wear my polkadot frock. She didn't comply until a few weeks ago when she was having a bit of a difficult time figuring out what to wear. Score! So, of course, we had to do a special COS for you all :)

    1. It actually has a zipper in the side! Hard to get on sometimes, but it's authentic to the time period. :)

  4. Ha! If you're not being sarcastic, you can look up Sense & Sensibility Patterns, which is where I got the pattern for my swing dress. Mrs. Chancey, who runs the pattern company, does an excellent job with her patterns, and you even have the option of printing them at home! As far as Charlotte's dress goes, well, you're on your own there. ;)

Charlotte, your dress is especially cute! I love your style! Brigid looks lovely as well. About your ages, I know you can't tell, but I thought I'd take a guess. Perhaps it will give you a laugh!

Brigid: By looks, 19. By hints from the blog: 17
Charlotte: by looks, 16, by hints, 15.
