#1top3days // Day 1 // Playful Prints

#1top3days // Day 1
Are you all as excited as I am for this event?!? 'Cause today's the first day of the 1 Button Down | 3 Ways | 3 Days challenge! Today we girls styled all of our button downs, unintentionally, with printed skirts. Do you want to see what we wore?

Purse: Thrifted // Clogs: Hana Andersen // Locket: Origami Owl

"Today I decided to do something I don't normally do with an outfit, and that is mix prints. I layered my button down for the challenge over a sweater that I have had for ages, and paired it with a printed twill skirt that's homemade. I think the prints work well together because the blue flowers in the skirt echo the background blue of the blouse, while adding a nice amount of tan/gray to add variety to the ensemble. My clogs coordinate well with my everyday purse, so I threw those on, knowing they would be great for when we head out in the rain later this afternoon."

“I chose my favorite chambray button-down for this event, because I typically wear it in a more “jacket” like fashion, and I wanted to challenge myself to branch out of my safety-zone. Chambray is a big color for me throughout the seasons, and is so practical for styling in the different genres of fashion; so it was the perfect fit for this challenge. I’m not one for tucking in blouses, as I can’t stand the continual tucking in and tucking out problem I always face, especially when the shirt is fashioned out of a more stiff, thick material; which is the case for this particular button-down. To remedy this factor, I left the shirt untucked and cinched the waist with a belt; providing me with the flattering, classic look of a peplum top. I played around with the color blue in this ensemble, incorporating both a dark, red-undertoned shade with a bright, yellower version of the color. I rather like the mix-matched effect :) The tan accessories help complement different shades of blue, providing me with a seemingly well thought-out, stylish ensemble.”

"First, I must confess I was a little uncertain when I heard that we three had been invited by Ashley to help host the Three Days, Three Ways Challenge, as I don't stock up on many fun button-downs. *Gasp*, shocking I know! But I managed to find the only shirt in my wardrobe that proclaimed "Jessica" all the way through. This blouse was gifted to me a couple years ago by a dear old friend who is very much a self proclaimed fashionista. I love you Mrs. T!

There just so happens to be the faintest pin-stripe of yellow in this shirt, which was perfectly paired with the yellow flowers in my ruffle tiered skirt. I wanted to go a little western with this blouse today since the little ruffled cuffs and neck remind me so much of a 1900s "prairie rose". Thus I just had to buckle on my stretchy leather belt! And what would be a western-styled outfit without my cowgirl duds? I chose my second-best western shoes since we would be out and about in April showers later on today. I must say, I am quite pleased with how this ensemble turned out!"

  2. Okay, I am not sure why my link showed up three times (because I refreshed the page?); I am sorry about that, how do I fix that? I did this on the other two blogs, nice way to start the challenge :P
I like Brigid's mixed prints. I am not sure I have ever mixed prints, but I like the look.

    1. All of the hosts share one link up, so you only have to link up on one, and you will automatically link up to all of them. If you linked up on all the other hosts' blogs, then that is why it showed up three times.

      Hope this helps!

  4. Your outfits are so adorable! Brigid, I love the excellent pattern matching and the way your matching shoes and bag tie the outfit together. And Charlotte, I am going to be keeping your outfit in mind as I have a shirt similar to yours, and would love to style it the way you did! I love your hair Jessica, and you make a beautiful modern western gal! Can't wait to see how you will all be styling your button-ups tomorrow!

  5. Not much going on today, hence why I found this challenge and decide last minute to dive in! I am really excited about the next two days of planning outfits :D I do love mixing prints but sometimes I slightly miss the mark. My sister (who is my post today as well) does that REALLY well and I mean she can pair prints like nobody else I've seen all the time...I wish I had more pictures of those outfits! The weather here is a balmy 88 degrees & sunny! Blessings. :D

  11. Love the looks! I think the mixed prints work really well in Brigid's ensemble since the colors get along so nicely, and Jessica's western-inspired look is adorable.
