Hi everyone!
Can you believe it? This post marks the very last of kitchen related Hope Chest items! I am only so glad that Mom came up with the idea of my doing this blog series with you all, even more so that I took her advice – I have learned a great deal from your welcomed thoughts and ideas, as well as past experience from older young women who have stopped by to comment from time to time. My heart goes out to you all, and I give you my heartiest of thanks for all of your participation in this series!
Now as I sit here thinking of what to type out for this post, my thoughts keep wandering back to one of our girls' favorite lines from "Little Bear" when Father Bear asks the silly question, "Has anyone seen my glasses?" For those of you who, like us, grew up with that sweet TV show, ought to remember that Father Bear was wearing the glasses right on top of his head when he made the hilarious inquiry (oh sweet childhood, where have you gone?). But at one point I too was asking myself when looking over my selection of Hope Chest things, "Where are my glasses?".

You see ladies, I had nearly forgotten in all my excitement of buying vintage egg beaters, Pfaltzgraff plate wear, and tea tins, I nearly forgot the most important table item! My glasses! Or if you prefer, glass wear. It is kind of odd to me that such a simple cup is one of the most useful little contrivances man has ever made. With out the every day cup or glass, we would still be slurping up our beverages in a very unseemly manner. This thought is odd, yes. But it is the little things that help make this world go round, not to mention the biggest of all things, God. God was delighted that we enjoy everything in life, even down to sipping a nice, ice-cold glass of water from a little cup that he encouraged us to invent. God, the author of all things is even the author of a little cup. :)

Details are always needed here on this blog of ours, (its the little things...) so I had best tell you where I found these charming little vessels. We were walking through the kitchen of one of the two estate sale houses we've perused through, when Mom and I spotted a couple stacks of boxes filled with nothing but old glass wear. Treasure, and the opportunity to procure some glasses for my Hope Chest! "Hah! I found my glasses!" For, after looking over a few of the boxes, I found 12 pieces of the darling little orange juice cups, as well as 12 of the grape leaf patterned ones as seen just above.
Oh dear! Now I am going to have the adventure of sorting through the rest of my Chest to see what other things are going to be put up next! Hmm. Not the most pleasing of jobs to do...
What do you think of my glasses?
What kind of glass wear do you ladies have?
Stay tuned for more decorous household items!
Love,
Jessica

P.S. We normally don't do this on our blog, but because there is such a great need I think it would be a good thing for me to share with you all who stand fast in the name of Christ. You see, we have a very, very sweet girl-friend who is in the hospital right now with a disease called Encephalitus, which is a disease in the brain; click here for more on the symptoms. She and her family members are all strong believers in Christ, but despite the many prayers and petitions they and many of their friends have lifted up before God, our sweet friend is doing worse than ever at this present time! So I would ask that you would lift our dear sweet friend up in your prayers, as she and her family need them badly! She has been in the hospital for over a month now, and she is only getting worse, in fact, the disease is life threatening!!! Many of our friends will be spending their day in fasting tomorrow, and I would ask that we all do the same only in prayer. Thank you for lifting up our fellow sister in Christ! She desperately needs it!!! And may the LORD hear all of our prayers, and may she be healed! Pray for His abundant Mercies! Pray for her complete healing! Pray that all the medicine, and each doctor involved would have the skill to save her from worse peril! Please pray!
Praying for the restoration of your loved one. Is this girl around ya'lls age too? That is terribly sad, but it's wonderful to know our Savior has it all in control. Sometimes it looks rather bleak but that's when He comes on the scene! Praying and believing! Merry from , eachlittlebird.blogspot.com
ReplyDeleteThank you so much Merry! Yes this young woman is around our ages, more in the late teens though. Again thank you for your heartfelt prayers!,
DeleteGratefully,

Your glasses are lovely, Jessica! Practical, yes, and so pretty.
ReplyDeleteI, also, will pray for your friend. God bless her and her family!!
My deepest thanks Genevieve! You and Merry C. put a big smile on my face knowing that we have yet two more loving souls praying for the healing of our sweet friend. :)
DeleteLove and thanks,

Praying for your friend girls! May our Father comfort her and her family, and bring healing.

Your glasses are so beautiful! I like your 'Little Bear' story.:)
ReplyDeleteI will be praying for the girl and her family! Thank you so much for sharing. :)
Much Love,
Hannah
I love the grape leaf glasses! I don't have any glassware of my own yet. I do have an idea of the style I would like. Something similar to the ones Judy Garland and Mickey Rooney used in publicity photos for Babes on Broadway in 1941. I don't know if I will ever be able to actually find a set like that though.
ReplyDeleteI will definitely pray for your friend and her family as well as they walk through this time. Philippians 4:6,7
I will pray for your friend. My sister had the same illness as a child and almost died. It is very serious and I will pray for a complete recovery with no lasting effects.
ReplyDeleteI am praying for your friend. :( I am very sorry to hear the bad news. Just remember that God is in control and He knows the outcome. <3 That is such a comforting thought.
ReplyDeleteGod bless,
Heidi
Oh my goodness . . . I will pray that God heal your friend and be with her!
ReplyDeleteGod Bless,
Natalie
Praying, and hoping... How are she and her family doing?
ReplyDeleteGlasses are something that is also mostly missing from my virtual hope chest - but I think I have more cups and mugs than anyone else in this family! (Well, excepting my married sister who already has her own household and loves entertaining many guests...)
You inspired me to start posting those beautiful and useful things I have: http://marmota-b.blogspot.cz/2014/02/the-beautiful-and-useful-teacup-coffee.html
I like both your types of glasses - they also look both beautiful and useful.
Sometimes - often when I'm watching fireworks and thinking of the different colours of flames, but also now when I think about glass - I am amazed about chemistry (which I admittedly do not remember much of from school) and the way things are created so that when they come together just so, something beautiful happens. In the most basic instance of this, I guess, there is the miracle of breathable air and water...
Thank you Hana! She is doing pretty much the same as last time, which is not a good thing. :(
ReplyDeleteI will have to go check out you blog! Thanks for letting me know!
I know what you mean about thinking of things in a different light. Its kind of strange how those thoughts enter our minds, and then we never look at the object the same way again! I am always thankful for those moments of small growth. It helps me to lift my heart up to our Creator and worship Him for all of the many ways He speaks to us.
It was good to read your thoughts. Thanks Hana!
Love,
Jessica
