Vintage Fabric Haul

Hello again dearies! Today I have a haul to share with you all!
Recently on Etsy I found a lot of 12 vintage fabric pieces, mostly from the 40's and 50's with some earlier and later eras thrown in. Now, I still had to pay a bit of a pretty penny for all these, but they are SO worth it! Take a look!

First is a 1940's oriental printed rayon. Isn't it pretty? I thought I wouldn't like it too much at first, but it has begun to grow on me. What shall I make out of it? Hmmm....

A pretty dotted swiss, which I also didn't like, at first, but has also grown on me. maybe it would make a nice sheer blouse? Or a hostess apron? Hmm...

This psychadelic acetate, from I'm guessing the 60's, I've already cut up into some winter 40's style Pj's.  For some reason the fabric reminded me of a pair of pajamas I had a LONG time ago, so of course I just had to make myself some flashback-to-the-past PJ's! :)

Oh, this 40's voile is going to be scrumptious to work with. All I have to do is decide what to make with it. A summery dress? Any ideas?
Flower baskets.
Another printed 1940's rayon piece, which I am already plotting to turn into a 1940's swing dress. Though I might always change my mind.
I must say that these rayons have such a high quality feel to them. I'm not surprised they've lasted as long as they have!

An atomic printed crinkle rayon. A skirt perhaps? Or a long sleeved blouse?

Some 50's atomic printed nylon plisse (sort of like seersucker). This is one sheer fabric that is destined to be made into a blouse of sorts.

Some more 50's plisse. Also sheer. I'm thinking a dress, for this material, unless Charlotte can convince me to make a petticoat out of it!

AAAAHHHHHH!!! This was the goldmine, aside from the rayon, of the bunch. Almost 7 yards of 35" wide 1930's printed cotton plaid!!! I am going to be making this into my dream fall dress. And I'll give you a hint what it will look like: Picture a long sleeved shirtwaist style dress, with a hood. Yep! A hoodie dress. Goody!

Next, a scrap of clown printed cotton seersucker. Someday this will turn into something for some little person, but until then it's going in my hope chest.

Next, some simple turquoise cotton which will most likely be turned into a slip to wear under the turquoise plisse dress.

And this, was the third goldmine! Some red and blue striped white cotton from the 50's. This is so going to be the material for my independence day dress for next year.

Have you found anything neat lately?
What do you think I should make out of each fabric?

Blessings,

  3. My imagination is stumped, because most of those are not my colours... I never knew my imagination worked like that, but apparently it does! Also, I tend to work with solids as opposed to prints, so I see the most potential in your solids. But I really think the sheer turqoise and the cotton should go together if the material does - it's already been matched for you, so yeah! And the texture of the sheer against the smoothness of the other fabric could make for an interesting effect if there were e.g. some gathering on the outer layer.
But there are oh so many pretties overall!

  5. O, how fun! I really can't wait to see the how the fall dress turns out! Last night I looked at alot of your past posts of your dresses, they were so nice! I wear mostly dresses around the house and for working in and usually make them myself since they are so hard to find! So I know the amount of time goes into each piece!
I also have just 'inherited' some vintage 40's and 50's buttons from my aunt all still on the cards! I hope to show a picture of them on the blog with our fist sewing inspired post tonight or tomorrow. :)
