My First Pringle Sweater

So, for all of you who have been positively dying to find out what that mysterious item is that I got at Goodwill the other day, I will now relieve you of your suspense.

I got my very first Pringle of Scotland, 100% cashmere sweater!!!
And to add to the value of that statement, it is from the 1960's (according to this label resource)

"But what on earth is a Pringle of Scotland?" You ask. WHAT!? You don't know?!? (well, to confess I didn't even know what they were until I read about it in a fashion encyclopedia)

Pringle of Scotland is a Scottish (obviously) yarn spinning and undergarment company, founded in 1815 by Robert Pringle. They ventured into outerwear in the 1900's, and, I believe, were the first to come out with the twinset. They have been manufacturing luxury cashmere garments since the 1870's, when they started out in the hosiery business. Today, they sell their cashmere sweaters starting at $198.00 (and that's for a shell on sale).

So, over all, I would say I got a pretty good deal, paying only about $2.00 for a vintage Pringle of Scotland, wouldn't you?

  1. Wow! What a find! Is it any warmer than regular cotton sweaters? I know cashmere is known for its softness, but that about covers my knowledge of it! And that is usually expensive. I stumbled upon your blog awhile back, and really like it! I am also a homeschooled presbyterian (maybe we'll meet someday! These circles are small) and have never been into 'fashion.' Give me jeans and I am a happy girl! But I love seeing you dress up prettily, and although I have always thought of vintage-clothe people as snobbish, I can now see that that is not the case! I suppose that in history, the women dressed much more modestly, so that is why we should look there to find modest clothing. Glad to see some Christians who are part of this movement! Well, keep up the good work! (I also like how you post more than a couple times a week, and have different family members write the posts about a broad range of subjects!)

    1. To my knowledge, Cashmere is the warmest fiber for its weight. So I suppose, in some circumstances, you could say that it is warmer than a regular cotton sweater.
So nice to find out about another presbyterian homeschooler! And my sisters and I are so glad to have changed your view of vintage-wearing people. That has been one of our goals, in the past few months, that we have been wanting to accomplish with this blog. :)
